Waterworks

Water reserves for the Reykjavík capital area are in Gvendarbrunnar, located on the outskirts of Reykjavík. Gvendarbrunnar is located within Heiðmörk, a conservation area. The water is of the highest quality; no treatment of any kind is required from when it is pumped from wells into the distribution pipes en route to consumers. A series of conservation measures has seen the supply of water in the distribution system decline over the past two decades, despite a considerable increase in the population of Reykjavík.
