About: (Description)
It is the largest island in Kollafjörður fjord and covers about 1,5 km2. In the year 1226 a monastery was consecrated there and it later became the richest monastery in Iceland. Among other historical events, Sheriff Skúli Magnússon built and moved into Viðeyjarstofa in 1755. This house still stands and is today the oldest house in Reykjavík built from Icelandic rock. The church was built shortly after and consecrated in 1774. Viðeyjarstofa is now a restaurant, a ferry sails from Sundahöfn to Viðey.
How to get there:
scheduled ferry from Skarfabakki pier in Sundahöfn harbour.
The route 5 bus stops 300 m from the Sundarhöfn harbor.
