Paradísarhellir ("Paradise cave") - A cave up in the cliff-wall - South East Iceland
By road no. 1 between Seljalandsfoss ad Skógar,
Region:
South East
GPS:
The Parking: N63°35.809 W19°58.181
About: (Description)
A cave up in the cliff-wall west of the farm Fit, an easy climb. According to folktales the outlaw Hjalti Magnússon, lover of Anna of Stóra-Borg, see previous page (Stóra-Borg), had his hideout there in the 16th century. A path leads to it from sheep pens above the main road.
How to get there:
Take road no. 1 from Selfoss direction Vík. After about 73 km drive from Selfoss there is a smal sign by the road on the lefthand side. The sign is small and difficult to see. If you click "more photos" there is a picture of that sign.
