Region:
The Greater Reykjavik Area

About: (Description)
Ráðhúsið, Reykjavík City Hall, is at the north-western corner of the lake Tjörnin on the corner of Tjarnargata and Vonarstræti. The building was designed by Margrét Harðardóttir and Steve Christer. Offices and meeting rooms are situated on the upper stories while the ground floor, which is open to to the public from 8 am to 7 pm, is devoted to cultural activities of various kinds. In the main hall there is a huge three-dimensional map of Iceland. On the side facing the lake the floor is at the same level as the surface of the water, so that when one looks out the floor-to-ceiling windows the building and the lake with its thriving bird life run together in a most natural way.
