Hofsós is one of the oldest trading places in Iceland, where there is also one of the oldest houses in Iceland. Pakkhúsið (the Warehouse), is in the keeping of the National Museum since 1954. In another old store, built in 1909, there is a centre for genealogical studies and a museum relating to Icelanders that emigrated to North America. There the descendants of emigrants can search for their roots and Icelanders can get information about their relatives in the West. Special postage stamp franking is available.

How to get there:
From Reykjavík take road no. 1 from to Akureyri. When in Varmahlíð about 295 km from Reykjavík take exit to road no. 76 direct to Hofsós.
