Bolungarvík, (pop. 906) a town and fishing centre on a bay of the same name. Off the inlet are two valleys, Tungudalur and Syðridalur, between which is the mountain Ernir (685 m). Wild but beautiful scenery.

Bolungarvík is one of the oldest fishing stations in Iceland, being close to the banks, but landing was often difficult. Now a good harbour and prosperous place, with a fish-processing industry. Good fishing at the end of the pier.

In front of the community centre is a memorial to Einar Guðfinnsson (1898-1985) and his wife Elísabet Hjaltadóttir (1900-1981). Einar was a prominent businessman and the driving force behind much of the town´s development. The cairn was built by Jón Sigurpálsson, using stone from Litli-Bær in Skötufjörður,
Einar´s birthplace. The bas-relief is by Ríkey Ingimundardóttir.

From Ísafjörður take road no. 61 direct to Bolungarvík about 14 km
