About: (Description) Láki Tours offers boat trips around the fjord to see puffins, whales and do some fishing. A beautiful oak vessel leaves three times a day for the nearby Melrakkaey island where a host of seabirds nest. Puffins, kittiwakes, guillemots, fulmars and shags are just a few of the birds to be witnessed. Then its off to deeper waters where whales will be searched for.
The gentle rocking motion of this type of boat is perfect for whale watching and seafaring. On the way back, passengers are given the opportunity to try their hand at fishing in the deep waters of the fjord. Pollock, cod and haddock have known to show up on various hooks in these waters.
The Láki Tours boat trip is the perfect family outing and a popular activity from Grundarfjordur.
Grundarfjordur Grundarfjordur is a fishing village situated in a beautiful fjord on the north coast of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. It is home to the most photographed mountain in Iceland, Kirkjufell which dominates the scenic background of this pretty village. The population is less than 900, yet most facilities and amenities can be found in Grundarfjordur: banks, grocery store, post office, museum, handcraft galleries, swimming pool, golf course etc.
How to get there: To get to Grundarfjörður from Keflavik airport, follow directions for Reykjavik. Once in Reykjavik, follow the signs for Akureyri and Borgarnes out of Reykjavík (road 1, Vesturlandsvegur). Drive through Borgarnes following signs for Akureyri. Just outside of Borgarnes, you will come across a roundabout, go three-quarters around onto road 54 (signs say Stykkishólmur, Ólafsvík). Follow this road (54) until you get to Vegamót. Turn right at Vegamót onto road 56. Drive over the mountain until you come to a T-junction. Turn left at the junction onto road 54 (again). This road will lead you to us.
On reaching Grundarfjordur, take the first turning right and follow the road past the harbour until you see a blue and grey building. That's us!!
The road is tarred all the way from Keflavík airport and it takes about 3 hours to get to us from the airport and 2 hours from Reykjavík.
