A volcano (1,666 m) covered by about 100 km2 of
glacier. Two eruptions in historical times, in 1612 and 1821-22. It is comparatively
easy to climb this glacier and there is a choice of routes. One of the easiest and safest is from Langanes on the road to
Þórsmörk
