About: (Description)
Jökulsárgljúfur, from Dettifoss down to the bridge is the biggest canyon in Iceland, wide and irregular. The land on the western side of Jökulsá to below Ásbyrgi is now a national park. See map on National Parks p. 37. Landgræðsla ríkisins, the Soil Conservation Service of Iceland has restored vegetation on Ássandur, the sand west of river Jökulsá from road 85 to the coast.
