Region:
East
GPS:
N6348.789 - W1639.905
About: (Description)
Ingólfshöfði, a cape on the coast 9-10 km south of Fagurhólsmýri, 76 m high, 1,200 m long and 750 m wide, birdcliffs, a shelter and a lighthouse. A jeep-trail goes to it across sands, mud-flats and many rivers. Formerly a point-place for fishermen, though always difficult and dangerous. Named after the first settler, Ingólfur Arnarson, who spent his first winter there in 874, commemorated by a monument raised here in 1974.
