About: (Description)
(pop. 230) a village on the north side of a small, pleasant fjord of the same name, with the short, grassy, wooded valleys Stöðvardalur and Jafnadalur at its head. Became part of Fjarðarbyggð in 2006. Fishing, some farming, and trading since 1896. Home of Petra Sveinsdóttir whose well-known private collection of stones is open to the public.
Accommodation and tourist services are offered in the old church building and no other church building in Iceland is known to accomodate such activities. Free camping.
Fishing, fish processing and commerce are the main industies here. The Snærós gallery is run by the the artists Ríkharður Valtingojer and Sigrún Friðriksdóttir. Various art items may be purchased at the gallery.
How to get there:
Road no. 96 is between Breiðdalsvík and Fáskrúðsfjörður. Stöðvarfjörður is by that road about 28 km from Fáskrúðsfjörður
