Selárdalur - The northernmost of three valleys off Vopnafjörður - East Iceland
Region:
East
GPS:
N65°48.112 W14°54.630
About: (Description)
Selárdalur, the northernmost of three valleys off Vopnafjörður, ca. 30 km long to the mountain Mælifell (822 m). Shallow with low moors and ridges on both sides. Selá is a good fishing river. 6-7 km from the road is the Selárfoss waterfall, and nearby some geothermal heat. The valley is now mostly uninhabited. The swimming pool in the valley, The Selárdalur swimming pool, is considered by many to be the most romantic pool in Iceland because it has no electricity and therefore relies on moonlight,
aurora boreales and the stars for light as the day wanes. The dressing rooms are illuminated by candlelight. There is currently one inhabited farm in the valley.
How to get there:
Take road no. 85 from Vopnafjörður direction Þórshöfn. About 12 km north from Vopnafjörður take exit ro road no. 915 to Selárdalur. The swimming pool is about 3 km from that exit.
