Þjórsárdalur, the easternmost valley of Árnessýsla. There are now only two farms in this valley, Ásólfsstaðir and Skriðufell, but ruins of 20 farms have been found.

It is believed that the valley was deserted after heavy pumice rain from the eruption of Hekla in 1104.

The valley of Þjóarárrdalur has been partly revegetated by Landgræðsla ríkisins, the Soil Conservation Service of Iceland.

Extensive birchwoods in many places. Two rivers, Sandá and Fossá flow through the valley, and the Þjórsá river closes it to the south. Þjórsárdalur is a National Forest

In Þjórsárdalur there is a swimmingpool. The swimming pool is located in the desert of Þjórsárdalur. The gps coordinates for the swimming pool is N64°09.650 W19°48.715

How to get there:
Take road no. 1 from Selfoss until exit to road no. 30 to Flúðir. You drive by road no. 30 until exit to road no. 32 to Árnes and Þjórsárdalur.
