Bustarfell - Sharp-topped mountain - A manor farm through the ages - East Iceland
Region:
East
About: (Description)
Bustarfell, sharp-topped mountain, with two lakes on top, Þuríðarvatn and Nykurvatn, good view. View-dial. On December 31st 1990 a youth fell off the cliff by the view-dial to a stream bed in the scree 70 meters
below, where a small amount of snow had collected, and slid a further 30 meters after that. Incredibly, he escaped with scratches and broken ribs.
Below the mountain is a farm of the same name, a manor farm through the ages, with a long history. One of prettiest and best preserved turf houses in Iceland mainly built in the 19th century and inhabited until1966. In the keeping of the National Museum since 1943. Houses a folk museum and an information centre.
