Jokulsarlon - Glacier Lagoon - East Iceland
By road no. 1 between Skaftafell and Höfn,
Region:
East
GPS:
N64°02.904 W16°10.774
About: (Description)
Jokulsarlon - Glacier Lagoon
Jökulsá á Breiðamerkursandi (Jökulsárlón), the biggest river on the sands, though very short, only about 1,500 m. Comes from a 100 m deep lake, or lagoon, Jökulsárlón, at the foot of the glacier. There are usually icebergs floating on the lake. The river, which used to seriously hinder travel, was bridged 1966-67, but the bridge is now in danger due to the encroachment of the sea.
How to get there:
Take road no. 1 from Vík direction Höfn. About 57 km east of Skaftafell you will find the Glacier Lagoon by road no.1
